Eclipse 2026: Furness Abbey

Some of you might know that one of my hobbies, apart from writing, is photography.

So when the solar eclipse passed over Furness Abbey on 12 August 2026, I took the opportunity to capture a time-lapse of the changing light across the Abbey.

The eclipse reached 92.7% at Furness Abbey, and because I set my camera to full manual, the exposure and focus remained fixed throughout the event. This gives a much better impression of just how dramatically the light changed as the eclipse progressed.

Watching the Abbey gradually disappear into shadow was quite something. For a few minutes, the atmosphere felt strangely eerie and almost surreal.
